A picture book rests in the middle of a circle. One child points to a drawing; another imagines what might happen next. A volunteer listens rather than rushing to the answer. This illustrative scene captures the kind of shared learning the foundation hopes to make possible.
A meaningful reading visit starts before the first story. The proposed team would ask a teacher about children’s reading levels, choose age-appropriate books and agree a safe space with caregivers. Small groups would let quieter children participate without pressure.
After a session, a short reflection could record which activities children enjoyed and which materials need changing. With permission, teachers could follow up on reading after three and six months. The purpose is not a perfect photograph: it is a little more confidence the next time a child opens a book.
